Convert Word, PDF, Text, HTML and Markdown Documents
Last updated November 2, 2026
Converting documents is about choosing what to keep. Some conversions keep the exact layout, some keep only the words. This guide covers the common ones: Word to PDF, Word to text, text to PDF or Word, and HTML or Markdown to PDF. For each, it shows how to do it for free with Uvolix and when another tool is the better choice. Uvolix conversions run in your browser; documents are not uploaded.
Pick the right conversion

| Plain text | Word (.docx) | Text to Word | Your text, with a title you choose |
| HTML | HTML to PDF | Headings, paragraphs, lists, simple tables and styling | |
| Markdown | Markdown to PDF | Headings, lists, bold/italic, links, code blocks | |
| Word | PDF to Word | Text and paragraph order; see the PDF to Word guide |
Word to PDF
If you have Word or Google Docs, use them for full fidelity. In Word, choose File โ Save As (or Export) โ PDF. In Google Docs, choose File โ Download โ PDF document. LibreOffice has File โ Export as PDF. These keep fonts, tables, images and page layout exactly.
No Word available, for example on a shared or locked-down computer? Open Word to PDF, choose the .docx file and download the PDF. It keeps the text and paragraphs with selectable text, and drops complex formatting, tables and images. That is fine for letters and simple documents; check the result before sending anything formatted.
Word to plain text
Plain text is useful for pasting into web forms, code, email or tools that reject formatting. Word to Text extracts the words from a .docx file and lets you copy them or download a .txt file. Older .doc files (Word 97โ2003) need saving as .docx first. In Word itself, File โ Save As โ Plain Text does the same.
Text to PDF or Word
Paste or type text into Text to PDF to get a clean PDF, one paragraph per line, with selectable text. Long text flows onto as many pages as needed. Text to Word creates an editable .docx: replace the example document title with your own before downloading, because it becomes the heading.
HTML to PDF
Any web page can be saved as PDF from your browser: press Ctrl+P (Cmd+P on Mac) and choose "Save as PDF". To convert HTML code you have written, such as an email template or a snippet, paste it into HTML to PDF. Scripts and event handlers are removed for safety, so it suits static content: headings, paragraphs, lists and simple tables.
Markdown to PDF
Markdown is plain text with light formatting (# Heading, - list item, **bold**). Paste it into Markdown to PDF for a formatted PDF in one step. Developers who convert often may prefer Pandoc on the command line, for example pandoc notes.md -o notes.pdf, which needs a LaTeX engine installed, or the Markdown preview's export in their code editor.
Check the result before you send it
- Open the converted file on the device the recipient will use.
- Check special characters, bullet points and line breaks.
- For PDFs, try selecting a line of text: Uvolix PDFs contain real text, so you can search and copy it.
- Keep the original document until the recipient confirms the file works.
FAQ
Why did my Word tables disappear in the PDF?
The browser converter keeps text, not complex layout. Use Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice for documents with tables and images.
Can I convert a scanned PDF to Word?
A scan is a picture of text. Run it through Image to Text (OCR) first, then paste the text into Text to Word.
Are my documents uploaded?
No. All conversions on this page run in your browser.
