How to Split a PDF by Page Range

Splitting a PDF is useful when an application asks for one section of a report, when you need to share selected pages, or when a long document should be separated into smaller files. Uvolix creates a separate PDF for each comma-separated range, or one PDF for each page when you choose the every-page option.

Choose the pages before you split

Open the original PDF and note the page numbers shown by the viewer. Check whether its cover or contents page affects the numbering you need. For example, if you need the document pages numbered 1–3 and page 5, enter 1-3, 5. The first range becomes one file containing pages 1, 2 and 3; the single page becomes another file containing page 5. Separate ranges produce separate downloads.

How to split a PDF online

1. Open the Uvolix Split PDF tool and choose a PDF from your device. The tool accepts one PDF up to 100 MB.
2. Choose Custom ranges to extract selected groups, or Extract every page to create one PDF per page.
3. For custom ranges, enter page numbers separated by commas, such as 1-3, 5, 8-10. Ranges must be in ascending order and within the document’s page count.
4. Select Split PDF, then download each result shown below the controls.

Check the files before sending them

Open each downloaded PDF and confirm that it contains the intended pages in the right order. Give the files clear names that identify the section or page range, then check the recipient’s upload limit and accepted file type. Keep the complete original until the recipient has confirmed that the files are usable.

Common errors and limitations

A range fails if it contains letters, starts at page 0, ends before it starts, or refers to a page beyond the file. Use commas between ranges and a hyphen between the first and last page. Password-protected, damaged or unsupported PDFs may not open. The tool has a 100 MB input limit; if a file is larger, use a trusted local PDF application to split it.

Privacy

The split operation runs locally in your browser. The selected PDF is read into browser memory and is not uploaded to Uvolix. If you are using a shared device, close the page when finished and remove any downloaded files you no longer need.
